Youth Blood & Fire Mission Trip
Our youth group has been going to Blood-n-Fire in San Antonio for about 8 years. The ministry there is the type of ministry that we, as a church, believe is most effective for building the kingdom of God and we consider ourselves partners with Blood-n-Fire
Our trip consists of working with inner city children in the mornings, then helping Blood-n-Fire with whatever other needs they might have. In the past we have done construction, cleanup, mowing, visiting the neighbors and taking them food, help with the once a month block party thrown by BnF for the community, and much more.
In the evenings, we bond. Whether it's through going to Schlitterbaun, Fiesta Texas, the River Walk, the Guadeloupe, playing volleyball, playing silent football (nevermind that one), singing and having group meeting, or just eating, we spend time with each other. 2006 was especially rewarding because all of us, but 2 sponsors that took a nap, stood inline together playing and enjoying each others company, while amuzing everyone else in line. It was a very bonding experience.
Our 2007 trip was a little shorter due to the availability of our accommodations at (Incarnate Word), but a lot of fun nonetheless. Working with the neighborhood kids is priceless. To see one of them hug us all on the last day and say that we were his best friends really made us feel very special (though I suspect he tells every group that, which is good that he appreciates the thoughts and efforts of the groups that come to help Blood-n-Fire). Again, our trip re-affirmed the importance of our ministry to (and with) Blood-n-Fire. They are a group that earns the right to share the gospel by meeting the needs of those they intend to share it with. God, please bless Blood-n-Fire and all their workers!
